Despite recent reports suggesting the opposite, Marvel Studios reportedly has “zero” plans to recast Kang actor Jonathan Majors following recent allegations of domestic assault and harassment made against him. Prior to the allegations, Majors was arguably at the pinnacle of his career thus far, starring in major recent releases like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Creed III.
The Big Issue
Majors will play the role of the main antagonist for the duration of The Multiverse Saga just like Kang did in the MCU. However, the actor was fired by both his talent agency and public relations manager earlier this week, sparking speculation that he would eventually be recast in the MCU. Soon, actor John Boyega became the undisputed front-runner among fans to succeed Kang. The 33-year-old Majors was originally detained on March 25 in Manhattan, where he was accused of assault and harassment in connection with a domestic dispute with a 30-year-old lady. Local authorities verified that the female victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of “minor injuries to her head and neck.”
Back and Forth
Prita Chaudhry, the actor’s criminal defense attorney, has already made text conversations between Majors and the victim public. She argues that this proves Majors’ innocence. However, it has just come to light that apparently a number of more women have come forward to report alleged abuse and are assisting the district attorney‘s office, according to Variety. Despite this development, Chaudhry had told Variety: “Jonathan Majors is innocent and has not abused anyone. We have provided irrefutable evidence to the district attorney that the charges are false. We are confident that he will be fully exonerated.”
There don’t appear to be any plans to replace Majors in the MCU, which is turning into a PR disaster for Marvel and Disney. Majors has been removed from additional roles in Otis and Zelma and The Man in My Basement. Marvel Studios has not yet responded to the report, according to Deadline (via Forbes), that there have been “zero conversations in the Marvel camp to drop Majors from the MCU.”
