The reaction to his film at the Cannes Film Festival has astounded Johnny Depp.
For the first time since his well reported defamation trial against his ex-wife, Amber Heard, he walked the red carpet.
The actor was greeted by a storm of yells from admirers and the clicking of cameras as he strutted with a smile on his face.
He had a fantastic welcome when he entered the theater before the opening of his latest movie, Jeanne du Barry.
A Well-Deserved Round of Applause
As the performer returned on the big screen, the audience rose to their feet and applauded.
Additionally, according to Variety, he received a standing ovation for seven minutes.
Due to the huge outpouring of love, Depp was even seen fighting back tears.
It was unknown how the slander case would affect his professional life.
His involvement in the Pirates of the Caribbean storyline as well as the Fantastic Beasts movie series has come to an end.
Apart from a few sporadic little films, his future on the big screen appeared to be in doubt.
However, based on how the crowd in France reacted, it appears that he has returned from his cinematic absence stronger than ever.
Some people objected to his attendance at the yearly gathering, saying Cannes shouldn’t have hosted or promoted Depp in any way.
Coming Back Stronger
In response to the situation, the director of the Cannes Film Festival stated that they support Johnny.
“To tell you the truth, in my life, I only have one rule: It’s the freedom of thinking, the freedom of speech, and acting within a legal framework,” Thierry Frémaux remarked prior to the festival’s start.
“If Johnny Depp had been banned from acting in a film, or the film was banned, we wouldn’t be here talking about it.”
“This [controversy] came up once the film was announced at Cannes because everybody knew Johnny had made a film in France,” he continued.
“I have no idea why she choose him, but you ought to ask [Jeanne du Barry director] Maiwenn.
I’m the last person who should be allowed to talk about the rest of this.
“If there is anyone in the world who showed even the slightest interest in this highly publicized trial, it would be me.
“I’m not sure what the topic is. As an actor, Johnny Depp is someone I care about.
Although critics have given Jeanne du Barry a mixed bag of assessments, it is certain that the actor continues to be adored by viewers all over the world.
