Sylvester Stallone says he’d make Ryan Gosling as the next Rambo. This was after he made an appearance on Friday’s episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” engaging in a conversation about unexpected connections between himself and the movie “Barbie,” Ryan Gosling’s unexpected ties to “Rambo,” and fond memories of his late friend and “Rocky” co-star/opponent, Carl Weathers. During the chat with Fallon, Stallone entertained the notion of passing on the iconic Rambo role to another actor, suggesting Gosling as a potential candidate.
Stallone quipped that he’d consider it, but who knows if people would say, ‘Hey, he’s too good-looking to be Rambo!'” The prospect of Gosling taking on the role of Rambo would likely amuse the “Barbie” star himself. At the outset of the interview, Fallon inquired about Stallone’s unexpected connection to the summer blockbuster making him think Ryan Gosling as the next Rambo.
Stallone Reflects on Missed Film Opportunity
During a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon, Sylvester Stallone recounted a missed opportunity to star in a film, explaining, “No, actually, the director said, ‘Do you want to be in the film?’ I said, ‘I’d love to be in the film,’ but then I was stuck on ‘Tulsa King’ so I couldn’t be on. And then they took, kind of, my image, and with Ryan, and it was, like, amazing. So, that’s the story.” Amid laughter from the audience, Fallon affirmed, “This is true!”
Ryan Gosling as the Next Rambo Role
Transitioning to the topic of “Rambo,” Fallon inquired about potential actors to play the character, other than Stallone himself. Surprisingly, Stallone suggested Ryan Gosling as the next Rambo could be a suitable choice. Explaining his rationale, Stallone remarked, “I met him at a dinner, and obviously… we’re opposites. He’s good-looking, I’m not. That’s how it works.” He playfully imagined himself as Ken, the Barbie doll’s companion, and concluded, “That doesn’t work at all.”
Stallone’s Reflections for Ryan Gosling as the Next Rambo
During a recent conversation, Sylvester Stallone shared an intriguing anecdote about a fan’s deep connection to his iconic character, Rambo. “So, but, he goes, ‘I was fascinated by Rambo, and I used to go to school dressed as Rambo, and people would chase me away, but I still didn’t stop. And, I, you know, vacation as Rambo.’ He just kept saying he had a lot of affiliation with Rambo,” Stallone recounted. Reflecting on this, he mused, “And I thought, you know, this is interesting. If I ever pass the baton, I’ll pass it to him.”
Remembering a Friend
Stallone also shared a vivid memory of Weathers’ audition for the role, recalling, “But the best thing is that the first day he came in to read, actually it was at night, and we were at wit’s end because we couldn’t find anyone.” He recounted how Weathers, a former Oakland Raiders linebacker, arrived in a somewhat surly mood, which ultimately impressed Stallone. “They had taken him off a Piper Cub [plane] going to Oakland because he lived in Oakland, and he was at that time still playing for the Oakland Raiders as a linebacker,” Stallone revealed. “So you know he’s fit. He comes in, he goes, ‘Oh God, this better be good’ — like, he was in a bad mood. And I’m going, ‘Perfect, check that. Bad mood.’ I like it!”
The Audition: Stallone’s Encounter with a Big Voice
Sylvester Stallone recounted a memorable encounter, recalling, “Big voice, he’s coming at me. Then, we read, and he’s going, ‘Oh my God, if you could get me a real actor, I could perform! That loser, that’s Rocky.’” As the situation unfolded, Stallone found himself increasingly apprehensive, noting, “And then I stood up and he took his shirt off and I went, ‘Oh my God, am I in trouble?’ Because I kind of looked like Pooh Bear at the time. I did, and he looked like Adonis.” Despite the initial intimidation, Stallone’s decision was solidified when he remarked, “And he banged about three shots off my forehead, and I went, ‘Hired.’”
