The director of the tenth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise has revealed how the character played by Paul Walker will make a triumphant return. The much awaited Fast X teaser, which debuted last week and featured the comebacks of Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, and others, has fans even more excited than before. Additionally, it hinted at Brian O’Conner from Walker’s comeback. The late actor tragically passed away in a car accident in 2013, and his final film role was in the Fast and Furious 6 prequel released the same year.
What Has Become
Walker’s character has now since been retired, but he has continued to be a part of the high-adrenaline action in the hit franchise. Along with the usage of CGI, Walker’s real-life brothers acted as body doubles so that the former FBI agent’s presence could still be seen on screen. Director Louis Leterrier explained how he planned to include Brian in the upcoming movie, Fast X, and made it clear that the Fast and Furious franchise still considers Brian to be “very much alive.”
A Grand Return
Leterrier confirmed that Brian will only be seen “in the past” but added that Walker’s family has continued to be associated with the company. “Well, Brian is very much alive in the world of Fast and Furious and they’ve teased him a lot in the previous movies.” he then stated to TotalFilm. “In 9, we see the car coming. It’s something that is planned. This movie jumps back and forth between the past and the present.”
“The Walker family is still very much a part of this franchise, you’ll see how in this movie. It just has to be the right moment, the right tone,” Letterier then added. The characters in the Fast X teaser note that the “end of the road” is beginning as the show’s two-part finale gets underway. The premiere of Fast X is set for May 19, 2023.
