Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene, the developer of the battle royale game PUBG: Battlegrounds, has given us a first peek at his upcoming project Artemis. Greene announced Artemis late last year, touting it as a brand-new video game that intends to use machine intelligence to create an open-world similar to Earth.

Greene went on to say that he wants the world to react according to what players do within it. He gave an example of how eliminating all the bears in a region could lead the deer population to explode.

Quite the Timeframe

This massive experiment will undoubtedly take years to complete, but Greene appears to be making progress. He posted a preliminary proof of concept for the upcoming Prologue, a demo version of Artemis that will give players a smaller taste of what he’s aiming for, on Twitter.

Today I want to share a proof-of-concept tech demo from early last year.

This gave me the confidence to think about planet-sized worlds and the possibilities they could afford players.
