One of the main motivators for English speakers to learn Japanese is anime, and language learning apps Duolingo and Crunchyroll are taking notice.

What is Duolingo?

Duolingo is a popular language-learning app that has revolutionized the way people acquire new language skills. With its intuitive interface and gamified approach, Duolingo makes learning languages fun and accessible to users worldwide.

The app offers a wide range of languages to choose from, including Spanish, French, German, and many more. It provides bite-sized lessons that cover vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation, allowing users to progress at their own pace.

Duolingo incorporates interactive exercises, quizzes, and challenges to keep learners engaged and motivated. Its adaptive algorithms personalize the learning experience, providing targeted feedback and suggestions for improvement.

With its user-friendly design and effective teaching methods, Duolingo has become a go-to language learning app for millions of people.

Is Crunchyroll a Food?

On the other hand, Crunchyroll is a popular streaming service dedicated to anime and manga content. With a vast library of thousands of episodes and titles, it offers a diverse range of anime series, movies, and manga for fans worldwide.

Subscribers can access a wide selection of genres, including action, romance, comedy, and fantasy, available in multiple languages. Crunchyroll provides both simulcast episodes, airing shortly after their broadcast in Japan, and a catalog of classic and popular series.

The platform also offers a vibrant community, allowing users to engage with fellow fans, discuss episodes, and discover new shows. With its extensive anime collection and interactive features, Crunchyroll has become a go-to destination for anime enthusiasts globally.

A Potent Combo

The two businesses are collaborating to make it easier for Duolingo users to learn some of their favorite words from well-known Japanese anime.

The Japanese course on Duolingo will now include close to 50 phrases drawn from well-known anime shows.

Terry Li, Senior Vice President of Emerging Business at Crunchyroll, said: “Anime is a dynamic medium and we know viewers have a passion for learning. Now on Duolingo, fans worldwide can celebrate anime by learning memorable words from their favorite series.

Given that 26% of Duolingo’s Japanese learners cite fun, such as viewing anime, as a major motivator for their desire to study the language, the anime crossover makes a lot of sense for the platform.

Grammar and words from other languages can be practiced by users of the educational program Duolingo. Lessons are offered by the company in more than 40 different languages.

As part of this new arrangement, premium Crunchyroll subscribers can redeem a two-month trial of Duolingo’s premium tier, while Duolingo students may be eligible for a one-month trial of ad-free Crunchyroll access.

Crunchyroll is now providing a selection of anime in simple, easy Japanese for language beginners who are just getting started. These initiatives include of Bananya, Laid-Back Camp, and others.
