Still Staying Strong

In a new movie that is not a reboot or a spin-off of the brutal, bloody 1982 picture Conan the Barbarian, Schwarzenegger, 67, will once more portray the sword-wielding Conan character. The Legend of Conan would take place 30 years after Conan the Barbarian and would also have the return of various characters from that movie, according to an interview with the website TheArnoldFans.com.

A Long Time Coming

Arnold played the titular character in a third major motion picture in 2011, but Jason Momoa took Arnold’s place. As many of you already know, Arnold only appeared in two Conan films: 1982’s Conan the Barbarian and 1984’s Conan the Destroyer. Additionally, it failed at the box office.

Schwarzenegger claimed in a written statement that he has been wanting to develop a new Conan sequel for years.  He said in the statement, “I’ve tried to convince them now for 20 years to go back and continue with the Conan series and they were not as enthusiastic as I was. “But then later, new management came in at Universal and they saw it entirely differently. They came to me right away and said they want to pick up the Conan series.”

The film’s co-writer and producer Chris Morgan, who promises the movie would be dark and mature, is also interviewed on the website. Morgan, who also wrote many of the Fast & Furious sequels, advised viewers to “think Unforgiven with a sword-wielding barbarian.”

Schwarzenegger then said: ““I’m really excited to be working on this – to do another Conan movie, and hopefully it will be soon! It is the greatest honor to be 67 years old and to still be asked to come back into all those franchises.”
