While many of us are already over the winter and planning our next vacation for 2023, it can be helpful to be aware of the less-than-safe locations while making travel plans for the upcoming year.

Stay Safe Travellers!

An interactive map has been created by the health and security services company International SOS to warn potential vacationers and travelers about the riskier places to visit.

The International SOS developed the security map using worldwide information on a variety of important concerns, such as an estimate of the population suffering from mental health difficulties, terrorist risks, and Covid guidelines.

The security risk map rates each place according to one of five categories—insignificant, low, medium, high, and extreme—using a color-coded algorithm.

The security risk assessment assesses the danger that political violence, social unrest, and violent and petty crime pose to employees. Political violence includes acts of terrorism, insurgency, politically motivated disturbance, and war.

“Other factors, such as the strength of the transportation infrastructure, the state of labor relations, the efficiency of the security and emergency services, and the nation’s susceptibility to natural disasters are also considered where they are of sufficient magnitude to impact the overall risk environment for employees,” the statement continues.

The data indicates that the shift in Ukraine’s security risk following the Russian invasion is one of the greatest adjustments since the map created for 2021.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office warns against any travel to Ukraine, according to the official government website.

Several towns and cities in southern and eastern Ukraine are momentarily under Russian control. There is a serious risk to life. The Russian invasion of Ukraine is underway, with strikes targeting a number of important cities, including Kyiv.

The International SOS map shows that neighboring European nations do not provide the same level of risk.

Actually, according to the statistics, all six of the safest nations in the world are in Europe, with countries like Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Slovenia, Switzerland, and Denmark all being rated as posing a “insignificant” security risk.

This states that “Rates of violent crime are very low; there is no sectarian, communal, racial, or targeted violence against foreigners; there is little political violence or civil disturbance.

“The infrastructure is robust, and security and emergency services are efficient. High-quality transportation options with solid safety records and seldom travel disruptions are available. Rarely does industrial action impact critical services.

Popular vacation spots like Australia and Morocco are classified as “low danger,” Cancun, Mexico, as “medium risk,” and Haiti, with its ongoing social instability, as “high risk.”

Regarding the “severe risk” category, the International SOS advises against taking a vacation in Yemen or Afghanistan.

Government control and law and order may be inadequate or nonexistent throughout wide areas, according to the “high danger” category.

There is a serious risk that armed organizations may launch violent assaults against travelers and foreign employees. Transportation and governmental services are hardly operational. Foreigners cannot enter large portions of the nation.
