Disney’s decision to reinvest in Phineas and Ferb is official. The popular animated comedy will return for 40 brand-new episodes with original creator Dan Povenmire in charge, according to a Jan. 13 announcement from the house of mouse themselves.

Povenmire, who also provides the voice of the character Dr. Doofenshmirtz, expressed his joy at the renewal announcement in a moving message. “It has been the greatest pleasure of my career to see how an entire generation of kids and parents have embraced the characters and the humor of Phineas and Ferb, I’m eagerly looking forward to diving back into the show for them and for a whole new generation.”
A New Generation of Fun
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, backed Povenmire’s enthusiasm in a statement. According to Davis, “Dan is renowned for his ability to create universally beloved stories and characters with both heart and humor,” Davis noted. “We couldn’t be happier to continue our collaboration with him and bring back the iconic Phineas and Ferb in a big way. Dan is a true mastermind, and his brilliant brand of storytelling has always been infused with a kind-spirited and optimistic sense of humor which continues to strike a perfect chord with audiences the world over,”
The adventures of the titular stepbrothers are followed in Phineas and Ferb as they use their summer break to come up with grand plans that frequently defy science. They frequently argue with their older sister, Candace, who makes repeated unsuccessful attempts to expose their parents to their plots. Their pet platypus is actually a spy, thwarting a mad scientist’s wicked schemes. The show continues in a run of TV movies after its first run on the Disney Channel from 2008 until 2015. In 2020, Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe, the most current, made its Disney+ debut.
