The FCC (Federal Communications Commission) has requested that Apple and Google remove TikTok from their respective app stores due to a “national security risk.”
Importance of the Matter
According to Brendan Carr, the FCC commissioner, “‘TikTok poses an unacceptable national security risk due to its extensive data harvesting being combined with Beijing’s apparently unchecked access to that sensitive data.” who has written to the CEOs of Apple and Google.
A Conflict of Interest
These assertions have been debunked by Michael Beckerman, vice president and head of public policy for TikTok’s Americas region. “He’s pointing out a number of areas that are simply false in terms of the information that we’re collecting,” Beckerman told CNN. “We’re happy to set the record straight.”
Official statements from Apple, Google, and TikTok are yet to be made, but all of us are waiting for an update on what to do. In the meantime, check out what Brendan Carr had to say right here!
