Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which had previously achieved the largest opening weekend in franchise history, has now become the fastest Call of Duty game to reach $1 billion in sales.

According to a news statement on Business Wire, Modern Warfare 2 sold $1 billion worth of merchandise worldwide in its first 10 days after being on sale on October 28, 2022. 2012’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II, which took 15 days to reach the $1 billion mark, held the previous franchise record.
After its first weekend, Modern Warfare 2 made $800 million globally, surpassing Modern Warfare 3 in 2011 to have the greatest first weekend in Call of Duty history. This is evidence of the game’s explosive start.
The game also experienced the biggest Call of Duty PlayStation Store launch ever, leading Xbox’s Phil Spencer to claim that the Activision Blizzard acquisition by Microsoft will not prevent the Call of Duty franchise from appearing on PlayStation platforms.
