‘It can never be compared to the celebration of someone’s wedding,’ Nelson Mandela’s grandson told MailOnline in response to Meghan Markle’s claim that her marriage to Prince Harry has inspired joyful scenes in South Africa that are reminiscent of the legendary anti-apartheid activist’s 1990 release from prison after serving 27 years.
The Big Issue
Zwelivelile “Mandla” Mandela expressed his surprise at her claims made in The Cut magazine that a Lion King cast member had compared Madiba’s historic journey to freedom to her royal wedding three years prior.
Not Like The Rest
In reference to Meghan, he said: “Every day there are people who want to be Nelson Mandela, either comparing themselves with him or wanting to emulate him. But before people can regard themselves as Nelson Mandelas, they should be looking into the work that he did and be able to be champions and advocates of the work that he himself championed.”
The controversy was started by a 6,409-word post titled “Meghan of Montecito” that was published just recently. In it, the former Suits star recalled a run-in she had at the live-action adaptation of the Disney classic’s 2019 London premiere.
