Variety reports that Joaquin Phoenix will be paid $20 million to return as the Clown Prince of Crime in Joker 2. That represents a significant pay raise compared to the first movie, for which Phoenix received $4.5 million in 2019.
The Brains Behind It
Todd Phillips, who previously wrote and directed the 2018 film A Star is Born with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, will write and direct Joker 2. (who also produced Joker). The new musical slant for Joker 2 was not mentioned in the paper.
The Man of the Hour
Phoenix earned the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Arthur Fleck/the Joker in the movie Joker, and Hildur Gunadóttir took up the Best Music Oscar. In addition, the film received nominations for Best Picture and Best Director.
Barry Keoghan’s portrayal of the Joker made an appearance at the conclusion of 2022’s The Batman. The Joker played by Keoghan is anticipated to have a bigger part in The Batman 2 and be a different character from the one played by Phoenix.
