In addition to the significant sales total, Warner Bros. Games boasted 1.28 million peak concurrent Twitch viewers and $850 million in global sales, both of which set new records for single-player games. Harry Potter: Hogwarts Legacy, created by Avalanche Software under the Portkey Games banner, gained attention by letting players explore a fully realistic rendition of Hogwarts Castle on next-gen platforms.

From Tough Beginnings

The game’s popularity, however, has not been without controversy as J.K. has been the subject of contentious debates between fans and critics. remarks made by Rowling about gender identity difficulties. Some people have even demanded a boycott of the game, even though the author had nothing to do with its creation. In spite of this, Hogwarts Legacy soon gained popularity, with over a million users logged in at once on the streaming service Twitch. While some gaming outlets and streamers declined to evaluate it, others refused to play it. Yet, Warner Bros. has greatly benefited from the game’s success. It has released games in popular properties including Batman: Arkham and Mortal Kombat.

It’s difficult to stress how fantastic this is coming from a production studio, Avalanche, who has spent the last 20 years mostly creating Disney-licensed video games, with Cars 3 serving as their most recent release. Yet they increased their team in order to make Hogwarts Legacy a smashing success. And despite that, Hogwarts Legacy has been raking in all the success and profit, and it doesn’t stop there. With the developers already hinting at a second game, who’s to say that their progress and success would be halted soon?
