In order to streamline operations under the direction of newly appointed leaders Traci Balthazor and Karen Toliver, 30 staff at Netflix Animation have been let go (Vice President, Animation Film Production). Netflix today confirmed the layoffs to Deadline.
Planning Ahead
The report did not specify which positions were lost, but it did state that the layoffs “do not signal a downturn in animation output” for the division that won the Oscar for best animation.
Promising Shows
The Oscar-nominated animated films The Willoughbys by Kris Pearn, Robin Robin, Back to the Outback by Clare Knight and Harry Cripps, and Apollo 10 12: A Space Age Childhood by Richard Linklater have all been produced by Netflix.
But even with that kind of success, the streaming platform had continued their plans with laying off animation employees to continue out its plans for its restructure. This could be a result of the ongoing crisis they have been battling for some time now. A lot of users of the platform do wish for more anime, but that may not come so soon with all these problems that Netflix has to fix up.
