Lionel Messi will return to Barcelona next summer after making ‘peace’ with the club’s president following his dramatic exit two years ago.
Messi Comes Back!
After Barca announced in a statement that he would be leaving owing to financial constraints placed on them by LaLiga, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner joined PSG.
However, when his contract in the French capital expires the following summer, Messi—who joined PSG in 2021—is reportedly planning to return to Barcelona.
After making peace’ with Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who was at the center of the dispute two years ago, it is thought that Messi will rejoin the team.
After his deal with Barcelona finished in 2021, Messi was able to sign with any team. However, following fruitful first negotiations between all parties, he was prepared to sign again with the club.
However, Barca released a shocking statement announcing that Messi will be departing because of structural and economic challenges (Spanish LaLiga regulations).
Leo Messi and FC Barcelona reached an agreement, and both parties clearly intended to sign a new contract today, according to the statement, but it was unable to be finalized because to structural and financial challenges (Spanish LaLiga regulations).
Given the circumstances, Lionel Messi will no longer be associated with FC Barcelona. Both parties sincerely regret that their wishes as well as those of the Club are ultimately unfulfilled.
“Barca wishes the player the best in his personal and professional life and would like to thank him from the bottom of its heart for his commitment to the improvement of the institution.”
Messi was reportedly stunned by the news because, in exchange for staying at the club, he had agreed to accept a wage cut of 50% from his previous contract, which was worth more than £425 million over four years.
On the proposed new five-year contract, this would have resulted in a £250,000 weekly salary reduction for Messi. But he concurred.
Messi had been strongly connected with both Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain as a result, and he was devastated to learn of his departure.
PSG appeared to be the more likely option because Messi had recently reconnected with Neymar, a close friend and former teammate, only days before Barcelona made their announcement.
Neymar, who left Barca for PSG in 2017, had expressed publicly his desire to one day rejoin with the Argentine.
Neymar got what he wanted. The Ligue 1 giants and Messi agreed to a two-year contract for a stunning £35 million per season.
Messi had a challenging beginning to his tenure at PSG. Soon after making his debut in France, he was mentioned in connection with a return to Barcelona.
Additionally, he failed to win over the crowd, who booed him during games following PSG’s Champions League Round of 16 loss to Real Madrid.
Dani Alves, Messi’s old teammate, even urged him to rejoin the organization after making his own comeback at the Nou Camp as a result.
Messi is currently thriving in the French top division, though. In his last five games, he has scored seven goals. Messi has excelled for Argentina on the international level as well.
He got two goals for Lionel Scaloni’s team against Honduras before adding two more against Jamaica.
According to rumours, Messi is still considering playing for Barcelona again next year. Messi has always adored Barcelona and has talked about going back there someday.
At the age of 16, Messi made his senior squad debut for Barcelona in 2004. Since then, he has made 778 appearances and established himself as a significant player.
He eventually broke the record for most goals scored by a Barca player with 672, including 120 goals in the Champions League and a record 474 in La Liga.
When questioned about Messi’s return to Barcelona, Xavi urged restraint. Leo, let’s see, but right now isn’t the time to discuss it, he added. You are aware of my love for him.
“He is a friend, and I’ll always hope the best for him.” Although Barca is his home, we aren’t doing him any favours by discussing [his future]. Let’s wish him the best and let him enjoy his time in Paris in peace.
