In an interview with Wired, the X Factor founder shared his TV career beginnings with Sofa Vergara, another judge from America’s Got Talent.
Cowell and Vergara responded to the most frequently asked questions about themselves on the internet in the interview.
Questions regarding Cowell’s first employment, to which he responded that he was a runner, were among the most frequently googled topics about him.
Vergara is perplexed and inquires, “What did you do?” without knowing what a runner is.
Her response from Cowell was that he “runs”; I’m delighted that one has been clarified.
Cowell went on to say: “As a runner, you essentially do everything without getting paid; you simply comply with all requests.
I am a really fast runner because of this.
As a runner, Cowell acknowledged that he wasn’t exactly the model employee and confessed that he had really been dismissed.
Despite being fired, Cowell showed up for work.
He stated: “I endured a lot of yelling.
“I smashed up one of the cars. In fact, I got fired – the PA’s liked me so much, they paid for my salary. And every time the boss arrived, I had to hide under the desk.”
The tale enthralled Vergara, who advised Cowell to “create a script about it, that sounds like a comedy.”
Cowell said that he did like his job despite all the commotion around it.
The record executive has, it’s fair to say, had a respectable career since.
The X Factor and the Got Talent franchise, which have been marketed all over the world, including the UK and US, were both created by Cowell.
In addition, Cowell owns Syco, a record label that is home to some of the biggest performers in the world.
One Direction and Leona Lewis were two of the numerous former X Factor competitors who were signed to the record company.
Speaking of The X Factor, the program has been absent from our television screens for a while but appears to be making a comeback. The Daily Star said in July that the music program would return, but not to its traditional home on ITV.
Instead, it is said that Channel 5 and Simon Cowell have agreed to a “big-money contract.”
According to the newspaper, the new television series will debut in 2019.
