Do you enjoy lying on your stomach while you sleep? Given that an expert has explained why we should stop the habit, it might be time for a change.

Nightly Routine Changes

Your evening routine, which includes the position you sleep in, is important (and frequently disregarded) in sustaining a healthy mind and body.

Laying on your front for prolonged periods of time can be a complete nightmare for your back, according to a spokeswoman for Levitex, a pillow and mattress firm that focuses on spine health.

He demonstrates on a model wearing a muscle suit and says that in order to hold the position, your upper back muscles must expand.

And your legs aren’t the only ones performing, well, legwork. He added, “None of you have ever watched TV this way, so why would you spend hours upon hours twisting your neck?

Additionally, keep in mind that lying on your stomach puts stress on your spine, which if continued will result in back problems “very, very soon.”

So, if you can avoid doing so, do so. However, if you are unable to refrain, at the very least, avoid using a pillow, which will help to ease some of the pressure on your neck.

As much as it kills me to admit it, the beautiful, big, fluffy pillows you use at night are perhaps not the best.

Instead, everyone should use thin, supportive cushions, which will support the curvature of your head and prevent morning neck pain.

However, it doesn’t mean you should toss out your old pillows; the Levitex host went on to say that if you’re a side sleeper, you may slide one between your legs to keep your posture straight.

You might want to try out a couple of these techniques if you frequently wake up feeling like you’ve been hit by a truck.
