In support of Europe, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy informed the European Parliament that his country is “giving away its greatest people.” Zelenskyy urged to EU MEPs to stand with Ukraine as it confronts the Russian invasion in an impassioned and seemingly unscripted statement delivered via a secure video link from an equally secure place in Kyiv.
Something Better
Zelenskyy, who stated yesterday that he had signed an official letter to the EU requesting that Ukraine be declared as a candidate country for membership, urged Ukraine’s European allies to show their support, saying, “We have proven our strengths. We’re the exactly the same as you.”
More Than Just Words
At one point during the speech, Zelenskyy’s English translator became quite emotional and struggled to hold back his tears as he interpreted the president’s words for the Council, which came as it was reported that at least ten people had been killed in a missile attack on the center of Ukraine’s second-largest city Kharkiv.
