A first look of Disney’s live-action It’s official: The Little Mermaid has come. The first trailer for the eagerly awaited movie was presented by the studio this past weekend at the D23 Expo. Halle Bailey will play Ariel in the film, a reimagining of the adored 1989 musical blockbuster.
Leading the Direction
Rob Marshall will helm The Little Mermaid, which was written by David Magee and Jane Goldman. The 1989 animated blockbuster’s original melodies as well as brand-new tunes written by Alan Menken and Diggs’ Hamilton co-star Lin-Manuel Miranda are anticipated to appear in the movie.
Staying True
Previously, Marshall told ComicBook.com: “There are things I’ve learned about how you have to work to integrate songs into story, and how it has to feel earned. It can’t just be sort of put there, placed there, because you feel there should be a song. It has to be a song that’s earned, that takes you there. And so as we’re working on, in a way, fleshing out The Little Mermaid, Ariel has one song in the animated film, and so we’re looking for maybe more material.”
