With three additional animated films in the works, the universe of Avatar: The Last Airbender is ready to expand even further. During a special presentation at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation unveiled these new projects, as well as the fact that Lauren Montgomery will direct the first of three planned Avatar films.

More to Come

Montgomery has enlisted the help of several Avatar veterans for the first installment of the series. Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino, who co-created Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, will return as producers on this project, alongside Eric Coleman, who worked as executive producer and production manager on the Avatar: The Last Airbender series.

In The Works

Latifa Ouaou, Executive Vice President of Movies and Global Franchises at Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation, will oversee the untitled animated Avatar film from development to production, alongside Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation’s Vice President of Animation Jason McConnell.

All of the movies are being developed under the Avatar Studios banner, which was established last year with the goal of developing original series and films based on the beloved worlds of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra for distribution on Paramount+, Nickelodeon platforms, and unspecified third-party platforms, as well as in theaters.

In her memoir, McCurdy, 30, discusses her time at Nickelodeon. She asserts that although she had to decline other jobs while working on iCarly, Grande was given permission to miss the production of Sam & Cat in order to participate in other shoots and events.

Leading Up to It

McCurdy said she quickly became ‘jealous’ and ‘pissed’ with Grande as a result of the singer being able to forego shooting in order to attend other events.

The last straw, according to McCurdy, came when her former co-star confessed she had spent the previous evening playing charades at Tom Hanks’ house when she arrived at work. It was difficult not to compare her professional path to Grande’s.
