With three additional animated films in the works, the universe of Avatar: The Last Airbender is ready to expand even further. During a special presentation at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation unveiled these new projects, as well as the fact that Lauren Montgomery will direct the first of three planned Avatar films.

More to Come

Montgomery has enlisted the help of several Avatar veterans for the first installment of the series. Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino, who co-created Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, will return as producers on this project, alongside Eric Coleman, who worked as executive producer and production manager on the Avatar: The Last Airbender series.

In The Works

Latifa Ouaou, Executive Vice President of Movies and Global Franchises at Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation, will oversee the untitled animated Avatar film from development to production, alongside Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation’s Vice President of Animation Jason McConnell.

All of the movies are being developed under the Avatar Studios banner, which was established last year with the goal of developing original series and films based on the beloved worlds of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra for distribution on Paramount+, Nickelodeon platforms, and unspecified third-party platforms, as well as in theaters.
