The Last of Us has been chosen as the best game of all time in a sizable recent survey.
Each of us has a particular game or franchise that we adore to the core. For me, it’s The Last of Us, and I could gush for long and a day about how great The Last of Us Part II is. However, it appears that I’m not the only one.
With the release of season one of HBO’s amazing TV version of The Last of Us, fans of the game had an incredible start to the year. It’s true that the terrible The Last of Us Part I PC release came after that, but I think it’s best to keep quiet about that.
Since then, things haven’t exactly gotten better. The Last of Us multiplayer appears to have been shelved in recent weeks, according to Naughty Dog.
Reveal it!
The project was slated to be shown during the PlayStation Showcase last month, but Naughty Dog was forced to divert their attention to other projects after receiving a critical evaluation from Bungie, a rival studio.
It was an incredible start to the year for The Last of Us fans with the release of season one of HBO’s brilliant TV adaptation. Admittedly, that was followed by the abysmal The Last of Us Part I PC release, but I think the less said about that, the better.
The situation hasn’t entirely improved since then. Naughty Dog’s upcoming The Last of Us multiplayer project has seemingly been put on the backburner in recent weeks.
The project was due to be unveiled at last month’s PlayStation Showcase but after a review from fellow studio Bungie, Naughty Dog were left questioning the long-term viability of the game, forcing them to focus their efforts elsewhere.
Well-deserved
In particular, a fresh single-player project is in development. While we are still unsure of what it is, Naughty Dog’s original game has received yet another well-deserved honor.
Empire conducted the survey, asking readers to choose the top 100 video games of all time. The victor? We Are the Last. Characters, impact, and storyline were all lauded for the game.
Elden Ring, Tetris, Super Mario 64, Final Fantasy VII, BioShock, Grand Theft Auto V, Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow, and Minecraft made up the remaining top 10, which was ranked in decreasing order.
The top 20 games in that order were Halo: Combat Evolved, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, Shadow of the Colossus, Street Fighter II, World of Warcraft, The Last of Us Part II, Final Fantasy IX, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, and Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
The fact that Miles outranked the first Spider-Man from Marvel startled me. The latter didn’t even rank, in fact.
Let’s examine some further examples of traditional top choices. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves came in at number 29, Red Dead Redemption 2 at number 30, and Bloodborne at number 27. Super Mario Odyssey came in at 64, God of War at 38, and Horizon Zero Dawn at 55. You may view the complete list, which, I’m sure, will spark a lot of conversation.
