Netflix has canceled Meghan Markle’s planned cartoon series Pearl, as the streaming service strives to restructure after experiencing its first decrease in subscribers in almost a decade.
In The Making
The animation project, which was scheduled to be made as a ‘family series,’ was discreetly scrapped by the streaming giant, according to several reports. It was supposed to be the first production under the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Archewell Productions, which was set up in the second half of 2020.
All Set Up
Pearl was supposed to be about a 12-year-old girl who goes on a journey across history to meet and learn from a range of famous women. With scripted programs, docuseries, and documentaries, the production firm was geared towards children’s programming.
While the series was still in development, it is not a good omen for Netflix and Archewell’s ongoing partnership, which includes an upcoming documentary series called Heart of Invictus.
