Rapper Drake from Canada is well-known these days for occasionally placing bets on UFC fights, generally for eye-watering sums.
Place Your Bets
But the rapper rarely has good fortune on his side. He placed bets on the UFC this weekend and lost an astounding $430,000 (£363,000).
Drake bet £169,000 ($200,000) that Kamaru Usman would beat Leon Edwards, but the British boxer ultimately prevailed.
This comes after the hip-hop celebrity earlier in the evening placed a wager on Jose Aldo to defeat Merab Dvalishvili, but that wager also lost.
The stake was worth more than the £194,000 ($230,000) Kamaru battle.
Drake had placed two bets on the Kamaru vs. Edwards match, both of which were unsuccessful.
The Canadian first wagered £125,000 ($149,000) on Nigerian fighter Kamaru to prevail through knockout. After that, he invested an additional £44,000 ($49,000) in Kamaru to win in the fourth round.
Due to the fact that the rapper frequently ends up betting on the loser, he is sometimes accused of cursing fighters.
Drake placed an astonishing £232,000 ($275,000) on Jorge Masvidal to defeat Colby Covington in his first ever public wager back in March, but Covington easily defeated the bet.
After waiting two months, the rapper decided to back an underdog, wagering £338,000 ($400,000) on Justin Gaethje to defeat Charles Oliveira at UFC 274. Gaethje ultimately dropped the match in the opening frame.
However, Drake has had some luck when it comes to UFC wagering.
The rapper eventually made things better by placing a wager on Israel Adesanya defeating Jarod Cannonier to retain his title.
Drake received the long-awaited good fortune, which netted him about £850,000 ($1 million).
Given that he recently picked British duo Paddy Pimblett and Molly McCann in a double bet that netted him a cool £3 million ($3.5 million), you might have believed that his luck was changing. Sadly, his streak of success was short-lived.
Just Not His Day
Drake’s poor gambling fortune extends beyond the UFC.
He wagered £186,000 ($220,00) on Charles Leclerc to win the Spanish Grand Prix of Formula 1, but the pole-starting driver had to withdraw from the race because of an engine issue.
Before this, just being around Drake seemed to be enough to result in a disastrous sporting defeat.
Football players including Jadon Sancho, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, and Sergio Aguero have all lost games immediately after being pictured with the musician.
Meanwhile, the Drake “curse” has also affected other athletes, like Serena Williams and Anthony Joshua.
