Mortal Kombat offered a lot of fantastic action scenes despite the script’s minor shortcomings, and maybe more crucially, it was HBO Max’s most successful film launch at the time of its premiere. As is customary in Hollywood, a sequel was eventually revealed, and as a result, we now know who will direct Mortal Kombat 2.
A Familiar Face
Although the sequel technically lacks a name, it’s being dubbed as Mortal Kombat 2 for the time being. The previous movie’s director, Simon McQuoid, will return, according to Deadline. More intriguingly, Mortal Kombat 2 has a brand-new writer on staff who could be able to fix some of the plot problems from the original movie.
Adding in A Big Name
The script for Mortal Kombat 2 will be written by Jeremy Slater. Slater is perhaps best known to you for penning the Moon Knight series for Marvel. Personally, I believe this is very positive for the project. Even though the MCU is currently going through a bit of a midlife crisis, Moon Knight is unquestionably one of the phase four highlights.
Even though the Mortal Kombat reboot received mixed reviews, it nonetheless performed admirably at the box office. And while positive views are coming in, what’s to come for the sequel might surprise fans as there has been tons of rumors and news coming in about it recently.
