Kanye West asserted that he had the idea for Django Unchained years before the film was released. Quentin Tarantino has responded.

Tarantino’s respond

In case you missed it, earlier this week West asserted that Tarantino “made it into a film” after hearing his idea while brainstorming with Jamie Foxx for his “Gold Digger” video.

“Tarantino can make a movie about slavery where – actually him and Jamie, they got the idea from me, because the idea for Django I proposed to Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino as the video for ‘Gold Digger,'” he remarked on Piers Morgan Uncensored. Then Tarantino made it into a movie.

But Tarantino has since claimed that “didn’t happen,” claiming that he had the idea before even meeting West.

There is no truth to the claim that Kanye West came up with the idea for Django and then relayed that to me, and I went, “Hey, wow, that’s a really wonderful idea,” when he made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday (27 October).

Let me use Kanye’s concept and turn it into Django Unchained,’ but it didn’t happen.

“Before I even met Kanye, I had the concept for Django for quite some time. He wanted to create a massive movie adaptation of The College Dropout, West’s debut album.

To do this, he wanted to hire prominent directors to adapt various tracks from the album, which he would then release as a movie based on each of the individual tracks.

“We utilized it as a justification to meet up, and once we did, we had a great time. He did have a concept for a video, though. I do believe that he agreed to become a slave for the “Gold Digger” video. And the entire thing was a slave story in which he sings “Gold Digger” while a slave. And that was hilarious. It was a pretty funny concept.

After making antisemitic remarks, West is currently dealing with a lot of backlashes.

In the past few weeks, he’s lost his extremely lucrative contract with Adidas, been dumped by the talent agency CAA, and had his waxwork taken down from Madame Tussauds. A West-related documentary that had been in the works was similarly postponed.
