Italy Is Offering Some Serious Money for People to Move to the Island of Sardinia

Grants of up to almost $15,000 are being offered by the Sardinian government as an incentive for anyone who are thinking about relocating to the picturesque Italian island. The initiative, which offers homebuyers substantial financial aid, intends to help draw people to rural areas of Italy and boost trade in small towns. Officials have set aside about $45 million for it.

Its Brief History

With more than 1,000 kilometres of sand beaches, charming port towns, and bronze-age remains dating back as far as 1,500 BC, Sardinia, the second-largest island in the Mediterranean, has long been regarded as a natural beauty with a rich cultural heritage.

More Than Thriving

But as younger generations migrate to big cities for employment, the region, like other rural areas of Italy, is seeing a decline in population and a deteriorating economy. According to a statement by Sardinian President Christian Solinas,  ‘Thanks to these contributions to (homebuyers’) first houses, (Sardinia) becomes fertile ground for those who will move there or decide to build a family.

The generous payments are a part of a national initiative to entice people to purchase dilapidated homes, remodel them, and launch new enterprises in an effort to revitalize rural Italian small towns.
