The DC movie division is now undergoing a significant revamp, if you’re just tuning in,  Warner Bros.’s somewhat of a haphazard approach to developing its MCU rival over the past year or so cannot have escaped your notice, and we’ve now hit its tipping point. And with that, Black Adam won’t be continuing in the relaunched DC cinematic world as intended, according to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Starting Anew

James Gunn, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy, has recently been hired to perform his magic on the DC Universe, which effectively entails tearing everything apart and starting again. That implies that Wonder Woman 3 has been scrapped, Henry Cavill will no longer play Superman, and the Aquaman franchise is almost certainly doomed. The most recent DC film, Black Adam, was obviously meant to be an attempt at atonement for the current state of the cinematic world. Johnson was sure that his antihero would be essential to the organization’s future goals, and a post-credits scene even briefly reintroduced Cavill’s Superman.

A New Beginning

Unfortunately, we shouldn’t anticipate a sequel any time soon after spending 15 years trying to get Black Adam off the ground. While DC will continue to work with Black Adam and look at ways to possibly bring the character to “future DC multiverse chapters,” We wouldn’t want to give you all false hope. And in a new statement, Johnson said that he had met with Gunn and that he had been told that Black Adam doesn’t fit into their “first chapter of storytelling.”

According to Johnson’s comments, he has stated: “James Gunn and I connected, and Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling, however, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters. James and I have known each other for years and have always rooted for each other to succeed. It’s no different now, and I will always root for DC (and Marvel) to win and WIN BIG.”
