An amazing medical advancement could result from an innovative experiment that successfully revived the hearts of dead pigs. In order to push the limitations, we place around death, a team of researchers was able to revive the heart of a dead pig.
One Heck of a Lifeline
This experiment disproved the notion that the point at which we define death is irreversible by reviving a pig’s heart an hour after it had passed away.
Staying Alive
According to Nature, the animals were connected to a device called OrganEx that pumped blood and a solution comprising 13 different substances, including anticoagulants, through their hearts.
They discovered that this slowed down the degradation of the dead tissue to the point that the heart started beating again and that the liver and kidneys were also active.
