China might forbid the nationwide release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in theaters there. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is not expected to be shown to viewers in China, despite being one of the biggest and most profitable movie releases of 2022.

Paying Tribute

As a “beautiful tribute” to the memory of T’Challa actor Chadwick Boseman, who tragically passed away from cancer in 2020, the film has received high marks from critics. And Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige has already hinted that a third movie about Wakanda and the Black Panther is in the works, but there is one significant demographic that is unlikely to watch it.

The Irony

The Hollywood Reporter claims that the second-largest cinema market in the world will forbid the release of the Black Panther sequel. On the Chinese market, the first Black Panther movie made $105 million in 2018, but there is a chance that the sequel won’t ever be released.

These rejections have been made for a variety of reasons, including the inclusion of LGBTQ+ characters in some films and comments made by persons engaged in the films that were allegedly critical of China.
