More Than Another Character

Coltrane was characterized as having a “special skill” by his agency, who also noted that his portrayal of Hagrid “brought joy to children and adults alike all over the world.” He has made appearances in the James Bond movies Goldeneye and The World Is Not Enough as well as the ITV detective drama Cracker.

Getting Recognized

Anthony Robert McMillan, the Scottish celebrity’s real name, was born in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, in 1950. Coltrane received the OBE in 2006 for his contributions to theater, and in 2011 he received the Bafta Scotland Award for distinguished contribution to film.

He co-starred in all eight Harry Potter films as Rubeus Hagrid with Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, making it arguably his most well-known role. Our thoughts, condolences, and prayers go to his family and friends during this time, and the world will surely miss him.
