After winning her first-ever Emmy, Jennifer Coolidge refused to leave the stage as the awards ceremony sought to undermine her.

Coolidge Knows How to Party

The White Lotus actor Jennifer Coolidge refused to rush through her award speech since it was the most important time of her life. She remained on stage despite attempts to remove her.

Coolidge won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie and had a lot of people to thank in her remarks. Watch it here:

Five performers were vying for the prize for their roles in The White Lotus out of the seven candidates in the category; Kaitlyn Dever and Mare Winningham in Dopesick received the other two nods.

In the end, Coolidge received the prestigious medal and insisted on remaining on stage until she had finished her speech.

She paid tribute to her fellow nominees before forgetting that she had a long list of people she wanted to thank during her big moment and starting to talk about taking a bath.

Oh, s**t, I didn’t think this was going to happen, she exclaimed as she hurriedly tore open a crumpled piece of paper.

It didn’t take long for someone behind the scenes to suggest that she should definitely think about wrapping things up after quickly going through a big list of names.

With “Time To Say Goodbye,” the Emmys attempted to play her out, but Coolidge began reciting the names of those she needed to thank.

When she realized her allotted time had passed, she exclaimed, “Wait, hold on, no, this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing!”

Ignores Cues

The award-winning celebrity resumed reading out the names of attendees while ignoring the cues provided by the farewell music.

The awards show then sought to switch tracks, playing “Hit the Road, Jack,” in the hopes that The White Lotus star would catch the subtext. However, they could tell she was still not getting it.

However, she persisted in remaining on stage, and rather than getting up and leaving as the music seemed to be hoping she would, Coolidge instead began dancing alongside the audience as they laughed.

She did eventually depart the platform holding her Emmy trophy, but not before finishing her entire acceptance speech.

People who were watching the event thought it was humorous overall, describing it as a “really wonderful moment” and hailing Coolidge as “an actual legend.”

Others found it highly offensive to try to distract the celebrity speaker with music during her speech, let alone to switch to a different tune in an effort to persuade her to leave.

When the award recipient had her time, one individual claimed they “should’ve realized the audience was into it,” while another claimed they were “stepping on the moment.”

Amazing right?
