Shrek is an angry yet kind-hearted ogre who first appeared in DreamWorks Animation’s 2001 film. Mike Myers provided the voice for Shrek. Shrek expertly parodies the many tales that begin “once upon a time” while forging its own identity as a fairy tale for the contemporary day. It takes place in a realm of kings, princesses, knights, and monsters from fairy tales. Antonio Banderas, a Puss in Boots actor and Academy Award candidate, has hinted at the return of Shrek. In an interview with Deadline, Antonio Banderas gave an unexpectedly upbeat update on a potential Shrek 5 and revealed that the tough yet endearing ogre is “coming back.”
A Huge Name
Dreamworks has seen great success with Shrek, which led to the creation of Shrek 2, Shrek the Third, and Shrek Forever After. The character, along with The Bad Guys, Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon, and Po from Kung Fu Panda, is included in Dreamworks Animation’s new logo, but the last time we saw him, he was waving to the youngster on the moon.A
What Could Come
Over the past few years, rumors about a fifth Shrek movie have come and gone without any results. However, Banderas claims that everything is going to change. He stated: “I’ve been with this cat for almost 20 years. The first time I did Puss In Boots, I was working on broadway, so I did my first session there. I’ve done five movies now. There is probably gonna be another, and Shrek is probably coming back.”
The movie closes with Puss and his buddies Kitty Softpaws and therapy dog Perrito aboard a boat, with the titular protagonist expressing he wants to go meet some “old friends” after the infamous ogre makes a brief appearance in a dialogue-free sequence. Far Far Away can be made out in the distance. Now isn’t that a great way to tease an upcoming movie!
