By creating the PlayStation Studios Mobile Division and acquiring the unproven Savage Game Studios to create “a AAA mobile live service action game,” Sony has pledged a dedicated expansion into the mobile gaming market.
Something New
The new branch will function independently from the creation of console games and would create “innovative, on-the-go experiences based on new and existing PlayStation IP that match PlayStation Studios’ high-quality standards.”
Laser Focused
The head of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst, remarked that this acquisition “reaffirms Sony Interactive Entertainment’s commitment to delivering innovative experiences to new players around the world by expanding to additional platforms.”
Back in May, Sony declared that publishing games on new platforms was now a crucial component of its business strategy, although this was mainly taken to allude to its recent foray into PC gaming rather than a push into mobile as well.
