Rights to Rocky Movies Demanded by Sylvester Stallone to be Given Back

In an attack on Rocky producer Irwin Winkler over the franchise’s rights, Sylvester Stallone referred to him as “parasitic.” After Irwin controlled Rocky for more than 47 years and is now controlling Creed, Stallone posted a grotesque caricature of the producer on Instagram stating that he wanted what was left of his rights to the movies.

More to Say

He continued by saying that there would have been “at least three” more Rocky pictures if it weren’t for Winkler. Six Rocky movies have been made so far, in addition to the two Creed movies that have already been released and the third that will be later this year.

Nothing at All

The rights to the character do not belong to Stallone, who penned the original screenplay for Rocky and starred as the title character in eight different movies. In a Variety interview from earlier this year, Stallone said that he was “furious” about the circumstance.  “I have zero ownership of Rocky,”  he declared.

Stallone confirmed in 2018 that he will no longer be portraying the role, hence he won’t be featured in Creed III. Despite this, Michael B. Jordan has stated his strong admiration for Sylvester Stallone as he had paved the way for the Creed movies.
