One US state is making history by being the first to enact the contentious bill, known as the “Purge” law by some. The action/horror movie The Purge, in which all violent crime is lawful for just 24 hours each year, has been linked to the law.

The “Safe-T Act,” which stands for “Safety, Accountability, Fairness, and Equity-Today,” will go into effect in Illinois on January 1, 2023, in the midwestern state.
Something New
The new law eliminates cash bail for practically all felonies committed in Illinois, revamping the state’s cash bail system. According to the alleged offense they committed, the new Illinois law will restrict who can be detained and arrested. For 12 non-detainable offenses, many of which are quite serious offenses, the newly approved law waives cash bail.
However, courts will only be able to grant bail to suspects if the prosecution fails to provide “clear and convincing evidence” that the individual poses a threat to another person or the public at large. The passage of the Safe-T act has sparked worries among many members of the law enforcement community, who fear that it may aggravate crime in Illinois.
