Popular Franchise Gets Permanently Shut Down by EA

According to numerous sources, Project CARS will be discontinued by Electronic Arts since it is incompatible with the rest of the publisher’s catalog of racing and simulation games. Warm reviews of the first and second games in the series praised the graphics as well as the manner in which they distinguished themselves from and outperformed elements of rival titles like Gran Turismo and Forza.

Sad News

In a statement provided to GamesIndustry.biz, a representative for Electronic Arts said, “Following an evaluation of the next Project CARS title and its longer-term growth potential, we have made the decision to stop further development and investment for the franchise,”

A Silver Lining

Electronic Arts has acknowledged that it is making every effort to reassign the more than 175 employees of developer Slightly Mad Studios, who hail from 30 different nations, to new jobs throughout its network of studios.

Fans of the series have understandably been disappointed by the news, albeit not overly shocked. While it was somewhat expected, the game and franchise will surely be missed, and hopefully the future could hold better things for everyone involved.
