After just one season, streaming juggernaut Netflix has canceled another adored program.

What’s Inside Job about?

American adult science fiction animated sitcom Inside Job was produced by Shion Takeuchi for Netflix. The show debuted on October 22, 2021. Takeuchi, a former writer for Gravity Falls, serves as showrunner and is also an executive producer alongside Alex Hirsch, the creator of Gravity Falls, and Mike Hollingsworth, the director of BoJack Horseman.

Critics have given the series positive reviews, praising the animation, voice acting, and social commentary. The series was renewed for a second season in June 2022, and the second installment of the first season was published on November 18, 2022. However, Takeuchi revealed in January 2023 that Netflix had terminated the series.

In a world where many conspiracy theories are true, the workplace comedy Inside Job takes place. It centers on Cognito, Inc., one of the six global powers that be and an American shadow government agency (the others being the Illuminati, the Atlantians, the Reptoids, the Catholic Church and the Juggalos).

As they labor in the organization alongside reptile shapeshifters, a human-dolphin hybrid, and a sapient mushroom from hollow Earth, the narrative follows a team commanded by a tech genius and her new companion.

Critics gave the show largely favorable reviews. Nick Schager of The Daily Beast described the series as a workplace comedy that “jovially mocks our brain-fried reality” with numerous “sharp jabs at corporate power/gender dynamics”

While highlighting the absurdity of conspiracy theories and arguing that the show shared some similarities with Futurama. Charles Bramesco of The Guardian described the series as hewing close to “the surrealism-of-the-week format”.

Inside Job, an animated comedy series, debuted on Netflix in 2021. The series, which Shion Takeuchi wrote for Gravity Falls, is set in a world where conspiracy theories are true and centers on two protagonists who work for a shadow government organization.

The show earned positive reviews from both critics and audiences (with a 79% audience score and 89% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes), and this summer it was revealed that a second season will be added. Unfortunately, circumstances have changed.

Takeuchi announced the disappointing news on Twitter, writing, “I’m sorry to confirm that Netflix has chosen to cancel season two of Inside Job.” I’ve grown to care about these characters over the years, and I’m heartbroken that I won’t get to see them mature. Reagan and Brett deserved to have a happy ending and a future together. And I would have wanted to be able to let you all know what was in store.

She said, “To everyone who watched, thank you for coming along for the trip. Even if I’m depressed, it’s comforting to know that other people felt the same way about these characters as I did.

The period drama 1899 was just reported to not be renewed for a second season, and fans immediately started a petition to try and preserve it. This is far from the first time that Netflix has unexpectedly cancelled a show. Several other series came to an end last year, including the frustratingly cliffhanger-filled Fate: The Winx Saga.

Despite all these beloved shows by viewers being canceled, Wednesday will recently return for a second season on the network, but no release date has been set.
