The medical field has had tons of medical breakthroughs since the start of the field itself. One amazing breakthrough has happened recently when a heart transplant had taken a turn to use a pig’s heart for the operation. The operation proved to be a success after the procedure was done.

David Bennett was diagnosed with a terminal heart disease and had greatly expressed that he did not want to die. In a first-of-its-kind procedure, he was transplanted with a genetically modified pig heart and is doing well going into the fourth day after the operation.

How to Save a Life

The procedure, carried out by a team from the University of Maryland Medicine, is one of the first to show that a pig-to-human heart transplant is feasible, a field made possible by new gene editing techniques. This groundbreaking procedure has now broken barriers and can even help out a lot of people waiting for their second chance at life.
