Brilliant Capture of the Lowest Landing at Sciathos Airport Makes It to the Internet

Plane spotting has never been this interesting, any aviation maven from the comment section of this viral video states.

Incredible touchdown at Skiathos Airport, potentially much lower than the record-setting 2013 Air Italy 737-800 approach. Here’s a Wizz Air A321neo landing on runway 01 at Skiathos Airport, also known as the “second St Maarten of Europe,” after a very shallow approach. The A321 is making a quick descent into the runway, passing within a few feet of the heads of plane spotters.

The A321 is a sight to behold as it flies low over the airport beach, its engines blasting the spotters and dirt below.

Since the runway at Skiathos Airport is rather short, larger aircraft typically arrive with an unusually steep approach angle in order to land at the very front of the runway while still having sufficient length for safe braking and deceleration.

It was too smooth to attribute the near miss to windy circumstances and the designed glideslope doesn’t go that low. The pilot made a low and precise pass directly over the heads of the populace, which was both amazing and dangerous.

On August 5th, viewers were treated to a spectacular show as the pilot made the most of the limited space available to him on the runway.
