Amidst Subscription Drops, Netflix Cuts Down Animation

Karl Telintelo

Netflix appears to be letting go of its animation projects. Netflix is halting its animation projects, removing executives, and canceling many highly anticipated shows, following well publicized subscriber losses.

A Change in Plans

Phil Rynda, Netflix’s Director of Creative Leadership and Development for Original Animation, was fired this week, along with other of his employees, according to The Wrap. Not only that, but a number of well-known animated series have been canceled.

Going In A Different Direction

In addition, an animated rendition of Roald Dahl’s The Twits has been scrapped, however a feature film adaptation is supposedly in the works. Toil and Trouble, starring Lauren Faust, was also canceled. These cancellations come amid allegations that Netflix Animation is changing course.

It remains to be seen what happens next with Netflix Animation. However, things aren’t looking well. Hopefully Netflix can come up with something that can save those projects and also cut back on their losses.
